The Wrestler

So, I waited to see the Wrestler on DVD. Glad I did. There were scenes of the movie that were great and I think overall it had potentiol for greatness. However, the story was boring and was predictable. I am usually a big Arnofsky fan but I think he really missed on this one. Oh, by the way, Marissa Tomei… we get it, you like to be naked. I have seen two movies in as many weeks with her naked (the other was Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, for those interested).

The story just never seemed to develop much… I found myself wanting more of his relationship with his daughter. Also, more about his life prior. That being said, Rourke was terrific. The movie would have been a gigantic flop with out him. Everything about his role was compelling and emotional and, most importantly, believable. The cinematography was well done. I liked the camera following him through out the movie. But, as a whole I would call it average.
